Powell Contracting Responds to COVID-19
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the world, we want to reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of all our staff and clients to provide continued excellence to all our ongoing projects. We will continue to listen to the advice of Public Health Officials and have taken measures to ensure that we do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Powell Contracting provides services and support in the construction and critical infrastructure in accordance with the List of Essential Workplaces as outlined by the Ontario Government on March 23, 2020.
Here are a few of the steps we are taking in this response:
Work-from-Home: We have placed a strong priority on the health and safety of all our staff and have directed a number of our in-office staff to work-from-home until Public Health Experts advise us that it is safe to return to office. While some staff are unable to completely work from home due to certain resources required in-office, we have increased our attention to environmental and janitorial services to ensure that all workspaces are kept sanitized and hygienic. Where we do have staff in-office or at client sites, we are minimizing face-to-face meetings and encouraging video conferencing as well as other digital collaboration tools whenever possible.
Digital Infrastructure: To ensure that all our staff and Project teams continue to deliver exceptional quality service without interruption, we have deployed further digital infrastructure support. This has enhanced our ability to work remotely as well as collaboratively while maintaining recommended safety guidelines.
Emergency Response: We continue to provide a key critical service in the form of Emergency Responses. While roadside accidents may be unavoidable, we will continue to provide response and support the maintenance of all roadside accidents where construction barriers and guide rail have been damaged. Our team will follow all health guidelines possible when responding to these requests. Safety has always been one of our strongest commitments and we will ensure we do our part when it comes to emergency roadside responses.
Medical Infrastructure Relief: Powell Contracting has been involved in the installation of makeshift hospitals to support the efforts against COVID-19 and provide temporary structures to treat infected patients. We were able to provide construction blocks for BLT Construction. These were used to support the structure of this site which adds an additional 93 beds (to its existing 71 dedicated beds) to accommodate patients with COVID-19.
We will continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with the measures we have taken while listening to the recommendations of Public Health Officials. We will adapt our responses as necessary to protect the health and wellbeing of our entire workforce and clients. As the situation changes, we will ensure that we take the proper actions to be prepared.
